Description
The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 300 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.
Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Processes all biohazardous waste, including sharps, pipettes, and biohazard trash.
- Cleans and sterilizes glassware, sanitizes incubators and hoods, and makes media necessary for research studies.
- Fills and maintains liquid nitrogen and CO2 to maintain study parameters.
- Responsible for the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex research studies.
- Organizes and implements data review and analysis.
- Oversees the proper handling of laboratory specimens including processes, shipping, storage, and documentation and transfer to designated central laboratories.
- Conducts data quality assurance practices.
- Prepares research summaries and assists in progress report development.
- Maintains laboratory work areas and supply inventory.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in science or health-related discipline

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary
$38,000 - $43,000. Salary determination is based on a combination of experience, skill level, education, and training.
